5 Easy Makeup Updates That Are Right on Trend

25 May, 2017
By BeYou[tiful]
If you're a makeup passionista like us, you're all over the latest looks as soon as the runway reports come out. This year the winter 2017 trends took a little bit of an unexpected turn. Many makeup artists unleashed their inner creativity and gave us some big bold looks. Fresh new textures, gorgeous pops of colour and statement-making eyes and lips are a definite do this season.

At first some of the trends can look a little intimidating but they are a lot easier than you think.  To help, we have zeroed in on six ways you can try these yourself to quickly update your look for your next selfie.

#1. The New Smoky Eye: Colourful

This year it's out with the standard black or grey smoky shadows and in with bright pops of colour. This trend is super-hot for summer so the time to start playing is now.

Make a statement with red or pink shadow - paired with a matte skin and nude lip, it looks so modern and cool. Or tone it down to burgundy if it feels too bright. For those fun GNO, a bold bright blue eye is the way to go.

And for a wearable day time smoky, try gorgeous copper tones paired with a deep brown liner. Let your eyes do all the talking.

Our product picks: Catrice Absolute Eye Colour in Don't Cry For Me Aubergina, LA Girl Beauty Brick Eyeshadow Neons, Catrice Pret a Lumiere Longlasting Eyeshadow in Allez Les Bleus and Almay Intense i Eyeshadow Trio in Evening Smoky for Brown.

#2. The New Lip: Neon

Never underestimate the power of a bright lip. It's the easiest way to introduce a statement colour into your look. This year it's all about the neons.

Before all the nude lip aficionadas run in the opposite direction, you may not know that neon lipsticks are actually very flattering on nearly all skin tones (orange looks drop dead gorgeous on a dark skin); just make sure you're not wearing a strong eye at the same time.

Round off the look by pairing it with matte skin, naked lids or a classic cat eye. Make your pout the centre of attention.

Our product picks: Catrice Ultimate Lip Colour in Purple Pinker Ball, L'Oreal Infallible Matte Lipstick in Say My Name, Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Spark and Palladio Matte Lipstick in Coral.

#3. The New Liner: Rainbow

If a smoky eye is a little too much for you, coloured liners are the way to go. Ever thought of wearing a red or pink eyeliner? Or trying a jewelled toned turquoise or azure blue?

Wear it in the most sophisticated way possible. The trick is to keep the upper lash line super thin and skip the bottom lash line. Or layer it on top of black for a multi toned accent eye.

Pair it with perfectly groomed brows and a matte or glossy nude lip. An updated on-trend eye in one easy step.

Our product picks: Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeliner Trio in Blue, Rimmel Exaggerate Smoke and Shine Auto Eyeliner in Blue, Catrice Kohl Kajal in My Dream of Caribbean and LA Girl Lipliner Pencil in Forever Red.

#4. The New Nude: Glossy

The nude look updated. Winter 2017 is all about the return of gloss - but with a twist.

Using a shimmer free formula, apply a thin coat of nude gloss to your lips, head upwards to dab a touch on your cheekbones and finish by slicking over your lids for the most 'au naturale 'look.

If you feel the need for a touch of warmth on your eyes, try a wash of soft nude-pink (for fair skins) or nude-peach (for darker skins) on the lids before you apply the gloss. Roll out those natural glowy highlights.

Not convinced about glossy lids? Byrdie features a 60 second video showing just how easy it is to get the perfect glossy eye.

Our product picks:  LA Lip Glazed Lip Paint Gloss in Elude, Essence Glossy Stick Lipcolor in Clear Nude, Almay Butterkiss Lipstick in Nude Light Medium and Yardley BB Lipcolor in Peanut Buttercup.

#5. The New Blush: Upwards

Add warmth to your face to brighten up those dreary winter days. This season blush replaces contouring as your face sculptor of choice.

Using a large fluffy brush, sweep powder blush from the cheekbones all the way up to the temples to create a bold, lifted effect. Finish off by blending it along your jawline and on the sides of your neck. Pair with a bright or nude toned lip in the same shade.

For you bolder girls out there, copy the runway look by extending it over your lids. Statement blush is back.

Our product picks: Essence Mosaic Blush in The Berry Connection, Palladio Baked Blush in Blushing, LA Girl Velvet Blush Contour Stick in Pompom and Catrice Pulse of Purism Powder Blush in Pure Hibiscocoon.
