Hot Right Now: How Pink Eyeshadow Can Actually Look Uber Cool

29 Dec, 2016
By BeYou[tiful]
You've always thought pink and red are staple shades for lips - right? So did we - until we saw them making their way onto eyelids this season. From deep, dark rosy hues or a light whisper of colour across the lids to a simple bold liner look, the pinks and reds are very firmly entrenched as the latest eye trend. And while it was little bit of shock to the system at first, we now have to admit that some of the rosy eye looks are not only ranking high up on the prettiness charts but are also incredibly striking to wear. And the big bonus - these rosy hues are very kind to darker skin tones.

However, these eyeshadow hues are a little scarce locally - but that should not stop all of us beauty passionistas. Just like the makeup 'artiste' pros, we will go into true multi-tasking mode and just raid our blush, liner and lip collection to zero in on the right shade...

The Reds

You will probably find the red shadow trend the most scary to try. And yet it can be very flattering and pretty easy to wear. However, one sweep across the lids is not going to work. The trick is in the layering. Start with a bronzer or taupe as your base, then lightly layer the red onto your lids. Using either a deeper crimson shade or a warm chocolate, accent your crease and sweep over the outer lids in a slight upwards motion towards your temple. Or play with a red liner paired with metallic gold shadow and bold lashes. Warm, modern and sophisticated in a few easy steps.

The Pinks

While the pink eye trend looks the easiest (after all, we've all been using pinks to highlight and accent for many years), its actually the shade which can go the most wrong. That's because you have to find the right pink for your skin tone. A blue pink will not work on warm, olive skins and skin with a red/blue undertone will not like a yellow based, pinky hue. But once you get it right, it's prettiness personified. Try a pink liner swept across the top lash line for a bold graphic look, mix blush with a little lip balm for bright shiny lids, or a grey smoky eye with a pop of pink on the lids.

The Burgundys

For those of you who are still a little scared of how you are going to pull off these rosy hues (it can go very wrong very quickly), there's a gorgeous wearable option which is big news on the runways for winter 2017 - and that's burgundy. It's deep purple-red undertone not only makes it easier to play with (it's a bit like a brown shadow) but it's incredibly flattering to most skin tones and combines well with practically all eye colours. Its popularity is running so high, even Kylie has just launched a burgundy shadow palette...
